Maui visitor spending up nearly 5 percent the first half of 2017. Mahalo!
Hawaii’s status as a premier resort destination was born out once again in the first half of 2017, with visitor spending increasing by nearly 9 percent. According to the Hawaii Tourism Authority, visitors spent a total of $8.4 billion the first six months of the year, an increase of 8.7 percent over the first half of 2016.
Total visitor arrivals rose 4.3 percent to 4,604,976 compared to a year ago, boosted by a 4 percent increase in arrivals by air and nearly 24 percent increase in arrivals by cruise ships.
Visitor spending on Maui, home to Kahana Beach, increased 4.8 percent to $2.4 billion in the first half of 2017. Arrivals increased 3.4 percent to 1.3 million, exceeding results from the same period last year.
