Annual Festivals of Aloha celebrating native Hawaiian culture begin Sept. 1
Finishing first runner-up to the Maui Film Festival on the Pride of Maui’s Top 10 list of Maui events is the Festivals of Aloha. The annual celebration of native Hawaiian culture runs through October across three islands, beginning Sept. 1 on Maui. If your visit to Kahana Beach happens to coincide with the festival dates, be sure to immerse yourself in Hawaii’s interesting and colorful history.
Sept 1: Wailuku First Friday Festivals of Aloha Kickoff. Live entertainment featuring Hawaiian musicians, crafts, and food booths. Market Street, Wailuku, 6 pm – 9 pm Maui Thing Stage – Natalie Ai Kamauu
Sept 16 & 17: Ho‘olaule‘a entertainment live entertainment, crafters artisans. Historic Banyan Tree Park in Lahaina, 9 am – 5 pm.
Sept 16: 16th Annual Richard Ho‘opi‘i Leo Ki‘eki‘e Falsetto competition showcasing Maui’s finest amateur male falsetto performers. Contestants belt their most exquisite high-register voices, an art form dating back to a time when Hawaiian women were forbidden to sing publicly. Special surprise guests to perform as well. Ka‘anapali Beach Hotel, Kanahele Room, 5:30 pm doors open, 6:30 pm contest starts.
Sept 22: Aloha Friday at Queen Ka‘ahumanu Shopping Center with Hawaiian cultural practitioners sharing their art with music and hula, 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
